Urusei Yatsura 2022 Episode 2 Review

Previously on Urusei Yatsura

Ataru catches Lum in the tag game where Earth’s future was in its hands. The invasion was canceled but Lum falls in love with Ataru and moves in with him. Poor Shinobu hates life.

At school

A usual day at school is taking place, everything is normal except for that couple in the back being lovey-dovey and interrupting class. The teacher scolds Ataru, but what can he do if Lum decided to follow him? You know, such a gentleman. Lum ends up kissing Ataru and poor Shinobu continues to hate life. Lum feels bad for causing trouble for Ataru at school and electrocutes him as an a…po… logy?

The exorcism

Ataru’s had it and leaves home to run away from his problems. He’s eating ramen peacefully when Lum and his parents appear in a TV program about missing people. Seriously these guys act fast. Cherry, the Monk is also there telling Ataru that he can’t escape so Ataru tries to change his destiny by running away from the ramen shop.

Outside the ramen shop, Ataru meets a woman who can read people’s faces and knows Ataru has bad luck. she’s a Miko, a maiden in a shrine and she is affected by Ataru’s bad luck, so she decides to perform an exorcism on Ataru.

The exorcism takes place but she can’t continue due to the pain Ataru’s demons… literal demons make her feel. Lastly, the exorcism succeeds but in that instant, when the demons were going back to their world, a Shinigami escapes and attacks Ataru.

The Ribbon

That’s it for our protagonist, he’s going to chase girls in heaven… or so everyone thought. Ataru wakes up when he hears the pretty nurse’s voice. Lum, who was there, grieving 5 seconds ago, decides to treat the patient with electroshock.

After being hospitalized for being attacked by a monster and electrocuted by his alien self-proclaimed wife, Ataru’s friend comes to pay a visit and gives him a package from Cherry the Monk. It has a ribbon that will block Lum’s powers. Lum gets happy thinking it’s a present so she innocently took it. After Ataru puts it on, Lum loses her powers and she can’t fly… or electrocute… poor Lum.

Lum tries to test her powers by holding Ataru’s friends and fails but she’s so cute, she makes them her fans instead. She starts to feel anxious so she reaches for Ataru for comfort (oh, dear child…) and Shinobu finds them hugging in the street. She misunderstood the situation… or didn’t, Ataru, you little… so Shinobu runs away, hurt again. Again, poor child.

Lum’s fans move into Ataru’s house to protect Lum because she lost her powers and can’t defend herself against the libidinous Ataru. Ataru get’s offended (about what?!) and kicks them out but they manage to get back in and after finding Ataru and Lum in a very compromised position,

Lum’s knights in shiny armor rush to save her… Lum start’s throwing things because she didn’t need any saving and that’s how Cherry the Monk’s letter explaining how the ribbon works s found. Ataru’s friend (at this point, I’m doubting that kind of friendship, guys, not gonna lie) starts reading the letter out loud and Lum gets furious. She takes revenge, she yells and scratches and electrocutes. You go, girl!

Things to remember for next week: A mysterious rich boy appears and parachutes from a plane… you know, as you do. How’s Shinobu? I’m worried.
